About Grand Teton National Park

Grand Teton National Park protects the Teton Range and much of the valley floor of Jackson Hole in northwestern Wyoming. The mountains rise abruptly from the sagebrush flats with no foothills in between, which makes their jagged profile especially dramatic. Glaciers carved the canyons and left behind a chain of lakes at the base of the peaks, and the Snake River winds through the valley past wetlands where moose, elk and bison are often seen.

Jenny Lake is the heart of the park for many visitors. A boat shuttle crosses the lake to the trail for Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point, and hikers can continue deeper into Cascade Canyon. String Lake and Leigh Lake are popular for paddling and easy shoreline walks, while trails to Taggart Lake and Bradley Lake offer moderate hikes with close views of the peaks. Oxbow Bend is a favorite place to watch for wildlife and reflections, and the Signal Mountain Summit Road climbs to a viewpoint over the valley. Jackson Lake, with its marina at Colter Bay, is the park's largest lake.

Photographers seek out the barns of the Mormon Row Historic District at sunrise, as well as Schwabacher Landing and the Snake River Overlook. The Chapel of the Transfiguration and Menor's Ferry recall early settlement. The park pairs naturally with Yellowstone to the north.

Best seasonSummer opens the high trails and lake activities, while September brings fall color and active wildlife.
Ideal stayThree days allows the Jenny Lake area, a couple of lake hikes and wildlife viewing at dawn and dusk.
ArrivingJackson Hole Airport lies inside the park, and the town of Jackson serves as the main base.
