About Park City

Park City is a mountain town in Utah's Wasatch Range, about half an hour's drive from Salt Lake City. It began as a silver mining camp in the nineteenth century, and after the mines declined it reinvented itself as a ski resort town. It hosted events during the 2002 Winter Olympics and is home to the Sundance Film Festival, though the festival is moving to Boulder, Colorado.

Historic Main Street climbs a steep hill lined with restored buildings now filled with galleries, restaurants and bars. The Egyptian Theatre, dating to the 1920s, still stages performances, and the Park City Museum covers the town's mining past. Skiing is the main winter draw, with Park City Mountain, one of the largest ski areas in the country, and Deer Valley Resort, known for its groomed runs and ski-only policy. Utah Olympic Park, a legacy of the 2002 Games, offers museums and the chance to watch athletes train. The McPolin Farm, with its white barn, is a local landmark at the town's entrance. In warmer months, Round Valley and the Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail are used for hiking and cycling, and Jordanelle State Park offers boating on a reservoir.

Park City suits skiers in winter and hikers, mountain bikers and families in summer. Its closeness to Salt Lake City makes it easy to reach, and it can be visited year-round.

Best seasonDecember to March for skiing; June to September for hiking, biking and mild mountain weather.
Ideal stayFour to five days suits a ski trip; a long weekend works well in summer.
ArrivingSalt Lake City International Airport is the gateway, with a drive of under an hour via Interstate 80.
