About Draper

Draper is a city of about 50,000 people at the southern end of the Salt Lake Valley in Utah, about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City. Settled by Mormon pioneers in the 1840s and named after early leader William Draper, it was a farming town known for its egg and poultry farms before growing into a busy suburb and tech hub.

Draper sits at the foot of the Wasatch Range, and the Corner Canyon trail system on its eastern bench has become one of the best mountain biking and hiking areas in the state, with routes to Ghost Falls and the Bear Canyon Suspension Bridge. Paragliders soar over the Point of the Mountain at Flight Park State Recreation Area on the south edge of town.

The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is a major family attraction, and the white Draper Utah Temple stands on the hillside above the valley. Lone Peak and the Lone Peak Wilderness tower over the city, while Salt Lake City and the canyons of the Wasatch are within easy reach.

Best seasonMay to October for trails and paragliding; fall colors in Corner Canyon peak in early October.
Ideal stayOne to two days, or a base for the Salt Lake Valley.
ArrivingSalt Lake City International Airport is about 30 minutes north via I-15; FrontRunner trains stop at Draper station.
