About Idaho Falls

Idaho Falls is a city of about 67,000 people on the Snake River in eastern Idaho. It began in the 1860s as a toll bridge crossing called Eagle Rock and was renamed after the low falls that a weir created on the river. The city sits in the heart of Idaho's potato country, with the Teton Range on the horizon to the east.

The Snake River Greenbelt is the city's centerpiece, a riverside walking and biking path that loops along the falls through downtown, with the white Idaho Falls Temple rising beside the water. The Museum of Idaho hosts major traveling exhibits and history of the region, and the Colonial Theater is a restored 1919 venue for concerts and shows.

Tautphaus Park has a zoo, ponds and playgrounds, and the historic downtown has local restaurants and shops. Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole are all within about two hours, making the city a popular stop for travelers heading to the mountains.

Best seasonJune to September for the greenbelt, river and trips to Yellowstone and the Tetons.
Ideal stayOne to two days for the greenbelt, the Museum of Idaho, downtown and Tautphaus Park.
ArrivingIdaho Falls Regional Airport is about 5 minutes west; Interstate 15 runs along the city.
