About West Jordan

West Jordan is a city of about 115,000 people in the southwest Salt Lake Valley, between the Jordan River and the Oquirrh Mountains. Settled by Mormon pioneers in the 1850s, it grew around farms, a sugar factory and the Gardner flour mill, and it is now one of the largest suburbs in Utah.

Gardner Village, built around the restored 1877 Gardner Mill, is the city's most charming stop, with historic cabins turned into shops, a restaurant and, every October, a famous witch-themed festival. The Jordan River Parkway trail runs along the city's eastern edge, and historic homes such as the Jensen-Jensen House and the John Farrer House recall pioneer days.

Veterans Memorial Park hosts concerts and the Western Stampede rodeo each July, and Salt Lake Community College has a campus in town. The Bingham Canyon Mine, one of the largest open-pit mines in the world, is visible in the Oquirrh Mountains to the west, and downtown Salt Lake City is about 20 minutes north.

Best seasonJune to July for the Western Stampede, and October for Gardner Village's witch festival.
Ideal stayHalf a day for Gardner Village and the Jordan River trail.
ArrivingSalt Lake City International Airport is about 20 miles north, and TRAX light rail serves West Jordan.
