About South Jordan

South Jordan is a fast-growing city of about 80,000 people in the southwest Salt Lake Valley of Utah, between the Jordan River and the foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains. Settled by Latter-day Saint pioneers in the 1850s as a small farming community along the river, it stayed rural for more than a century before booming as a family suburb from the 1990s on.

Much of the growth centers on Daybreak, a large master-planned community on the west side built around Oquirrh Lake, with walking paths, a small downtown and TRAX light rail stations. The white Jordan River Utah Temple, dedicated in 1981, is a prominent landmark, and the Gale Center of History and Culture shares the city's pioneer and farming story.

The Jordan River Parkway trail runs along the east side of the city for biking and walking, and families head to Mulligans for mini golf and to The District for shopping and dining. Salt Lake City, the Wasatch ski resorts and the canyons of the Wasatch Front are all within about 30 to 45 minutes.

Best seasonMay to October for lake and trail time; winter for nearby Wasatch skiing.
Ideal stayOne day locally, or a quiet base for several days exploring Salt Lake City and the mountains.
ArrivingSalt Lake City International Airport is about 25 minutes north; TRAX Red Line light rail serves Daybreak.
