About Logan

Logan is a city of about 55,000 people in northern Utah and the seat of Cache County, set in the broad, green Cache Valley at the mouth of Logan Canyon, about 80 miles north of Salt Lake City. Settled by Latter-day Saint pioneers in 1859, it is home to Utah State University, founded in 1888, which gives the town a lively college atmosphere.

The Logan Utah Temple, dedicated in 1884, stands on a hill above town, and the Logan Tabernacle anchors a historic downtown of 19th-century brick buildings around the Cache County Courthouse. Logan is also a regional arts center, with the restored Ellen Eccles Theatre and Utah Theatre and a summer season of opera and musicals.

The great outdoors begins at the edge of town. The Logan Canyon Scenic Byway climbs through limestone cliffs and forest to Bear Lake, with trailheads such as the Wind Caves Trail along the way, while the Logan River Trail follows the river through town. Don't leave without trying Aggie Ice Cream on the USU campus.

Best seasonJune to October for canyon drives, hiking and the summer arts festival; fall colors peak in late September.
Ideal stayTwo to three days for downtown, the university and Logan Canyon.
ArrivingSalt Lake City International Airport is about 90 minutes south; the free Cache Valley Transit buses run around town.
