About Ogden

Ogden is a historic railroad city of about 90,000 people at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains, about 40 miles north of Salt Lake City. After the transcontinental railroad was completed nearby in 1869, Ogden became a major junction known as the Junction City, and its Historic 25th Street, once lined with saloons and speakeasies, is now one of Utah's liveliest dining streets.

Union Station, the grand 1924 depot at the end of 25th Street, houses museums of railroading, classic cars and firearms. Weber State University overlooks the city from the east bench, the George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park displays life-size dinosaur models along trails, and the Ogden Nature Center protects wetlands and woods right in town. The Ogden Farmers Market fills downtown on summer Saturdays.

Ogden is an outdoor town at heart. The Bonneville Shoreline Trail runs along the mountainside above the city, the Ogden River Parkway follows the river through town, and Snowbasin Resort, a 2002 Olympic venue, and Powder Mountain offer world-class skiing just up Ogden Canyon.

Best seasonJune to September for hiking and the farmers market, and December to March for skiing at Snowbasin and Powder Mountain.
Ideal stayOne day for 25th Street and Union Station, two or more with hiking or skiing.
ArrivingSalt Lake City International Airport is about 35 miles south, and FrontRunner trains run to Ogden.
