About Millcreek

Millcreek is a city of about 63,000 people in Salt Lake County, Utah, on the east bench of the Salt Lake Valley just southeast of Salt Lake City. It takes its name from Mill Creek, where Mormon pioneers built sawmills and gristmills soon after arriving in 1847, and after more than a century as an unincorporated community it became a city in 2016.

The city's biggest draw is Millcreek Canyon, which opens at the city's eastern edge into the Wasatch Range. A paved road climbs past picnic areas and trailheads for some of the most popular hikes near Salt Lake, including Grandeur Peak, the Pipeline Trail and Dog Lake. Neffs Canyon offers a steeper wooded trail straight from a neighborhood trailhead.

In town, the new Millcreek Common gathering place has a seasonal ice ribbon, restaurants and events, and Canyon Rim Park is a favorite neighborhood green space. Downtown Salt Lake City is about 15 minutes away, and the ski resorts of Big and Little Cottonwood canyons are within half an hour.

Best seasonJune to October for canyon hikes; winter for skating at Millcreek Common and nearby skiing.
Ideal stayOne day for a canyon hike and a meal, or use it as a base for Salt Lake City.
ArrivingSalt Lake City International Airport is about 20 to 25 minutes away by car via I-80 or I-215.
