About Lawrenceville

Lawrenceville is a city of about 31,000 people and the county seat of Gwinnett County, about 30 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. Founded in 1821, it is one of the oldest cities in the Atlanta area, and its historic downtown square has been revived as a popular place for dining, theater and events.

The Historic Gwinnett County Courthouse, built in 1885 with a tall clock tower, stands at the center of the square and is used for events and weddings; the surrounding streets hold restaurants, breweries and shops. The Aurora Theatre, one of the region's leading professional theaters, presents plays and musicals downtown, and the Lawrenceville Lawn is a large green space with concerts, movies and festivals. The Isaac Adair House, an 1820s home, and the Female Seminary building, one of the city's oldest, recall its early history, and the Southeastern Railway Museum is nearby in Duluth.

Georgia Gwinnett College has a campus on the city's south side. The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center offers nature trails and exhibits, the Yellow River and its parks are close by, and Lake Lanier, Stone Mountain Park and the shops of the Mall of Georgia are within a half-hour drive.

Best seasonApril to June and September to October for concerts on the Lawn and events on the square.
Ideal stayHalf a day to a day for the square, the courthouse and an evening show at the Aurora Theatre.
ArrivingHartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is about 45 minutes away; Georgia 316 and I-85 pass nearby.
