About Dunwoody

Dunwoody is a city of about 51,000 people in north DeKalb County, about 20 miles north of downtown Atlanta, just inside the Perimeter area. It grew from a small 19th-century crossroads named for Major Charles Dunwoody into a leafy suburb, and it became a city in 2008. Today it combines quiet neighborhoods and wooded parks with the busy Perimeter Center business and shopping district.

Dunwoody Village, the city's traditional heart, is a cluster of colonial-style shops and restaurants, and the Donaldson-Bannister Farm, an 1870s farmhouse with barns and gardens, hosts events and tours. The Spruill Center for the Arts offers galleries and classes, and Stage Door Theatre presents plays in a small playhouse. Brook Run Park is the city's largest park, with a long boardwalk trail through the woods, a skate park, a dog park and community gardens.

The Dunwoody Nature Center protects woods, a stream and meadows with trails, and the city's growing trail network, including the Perimeter Center paths, links parks and neighborhoods. The Chattahoochee River and its national recreation area are just to the west, and Perimeter Mall, Sandy Springs and Brookhaven are a short drive away, with MARTA trains connecting to Atlanta.

Best seasonApril to May and October to November for parks, nature trails and outdoor events.
