About Duluth

Duluth is a city of about 31,000 people in Gwinnett County, about 25 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. It began as a railroad town in the 1870s, named after Duluth, Minnesota, and grew from a small farming community into one of Gwinnett's most diverse and lively suburbs, with a busy restaurant scene and a revived historic downtown.

The Duluth Town Green is the heart of the city, a large lawn with a fountain, a stage and the city hall, surrounded by restaurants, shops and the Red Clay Music Foundry, a small concert hall. Festivals, concerts and outdoor movies fill the green through the year, and Main Street's historic buildings hold local businesses. Pleasant Hill Road is known for its many Korean and other Asian restaurants and bakeries.

The Southeastern Railway Museum, Georgia's official transportation history museum, displays dozens of locomotives, cars and a restored depot, with train rides on some days. The Chattahoochee River runs along the city's western edge, with parks and paddling, and McDaniel Farm Park preserves a 1930s farm with trails and barns. Gas South Arena, home of the Atlanta Gladiators hockey team, hosts concerts and events.

Best seasonApril to June and September to October for events on the Town Green and river parks.
Ideal stayOne day for the Town Green, the Railway Museum and dinner on Pleasant Hill Road.
ArrivingHartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is about 40 minutes away; I-85 runs past the city.
