About Tucker

Tucker is a city of about 37,000 people in north-central DeKalb County, roughly 15 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. The community grew up around a railroad line built through the area in the 1890s, and for more than a century it was an unincorporated suburb with a strong small-town identity before residents voted to make it a city in 2016. Today it mixes established neighborhoods, a walkable historic Main Street and easy access to Stone Mountain.

Main Street is the heart of Tucker, lined with older storefronts, local restaurants, bakeries and coffee shops beside the railroad tracks. The street fills up for community events such as the Tucker Cruise-In, a classic car show held on warm-weather evenings, and the annual Tucker Day festival with a parade, music and food. New public spaces and a small town green with water features give downtown places to sit outside.

Parks are spread throughout the city. Henderson Park has a lake ringed by a wooded walking trail, Johns Homestead Park offers quiet trails and a pond, and Kelley Cofer Park has ballfields and playgrounds. Stone Mountain Park, with its granite summit, hiking trails and lake, is only a few miles east, and Tucker's location near Interstate 285 and US 78 makes it an easy base for exploring the wider Atlanta area.

Best seasonApril to June and September to October for Main Street events, parks and Stone Mountain hikes.
Ideal stayHalf a day for Main Street and a park, or a full day paired with Stone Mountain Park.
ArrivingHartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is about 30 to 40 minutes away by car via Interstate 285.
