About Johns Creek

Johns Creek is a city of about 83,000 people in north Fulton County, about 30 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, bordered on the north and east by the Chattahoochee River. It became a city in 2006 and is known as one of the most affluent and family-friendly communities in Georgia, with leafy neighborhoods, top-rated schools and miles of parks.

The Chattahoochee is the city's natural highlight. Riverside parks and units of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, such as Jones Bridge, have river access for fishing, paddling and tubing, along with wooded trails and the ruins of an old bridge. Newtown Park is the city's main park, with a dog park, sports fields and a lake, and Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center protects 46 acres of woods with trails and historic buildings, including an old farmhouse, a church and a general store.

The Johns Creek Town Center area is being built into a walkable city center with a park and events, and the Johns Creek Arts Center offers galleries and classes. Shopping and dining cluster around Medlock Bridge Road and State Bridge Road, and the historic town of Duluth, the shops of Alpharetta and the Big Creek Greenway are close by.

Best seasonApril to May and September to October for river days and nature trails.
Ideal stayHalf a day to a day for the river parks, Autrey Mill and Newtown Park.
ArrivingHartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is about 45 minutes away; Georgia 141 runs through the city.
