About Chamblee

Chamblee is a city of about 30,000 people in DeKalb County, just northeast of Atlanta's Buckhead and Brookhaven. It began in the 1870s as a railroad stop and grew around Camp Gordon and later the Naval Air Station Atlanta, whose old airfield became today's DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. Now it is known as one of the most diverse small cities in the Atlanta area.

Downtown Chamblee, around the MARTA station and the railroad, has been rebuilt with a new city hall, restaurants, breweries and apartments, and Antique Row on Peachtree Road was long famous for its antique shops in old brick buildings. Buford Highway, which runs through the city, is lined with Asian and Latin American restaurants, bakeries and markets, making it one of the region's great food destinations. The Chamblee Rail Trail, built on an old rail line, links downtown with Keswick Park.

Keswick Park has trails, gardens and picnic shelters, and Huntley Hills and other parks offer woods and playgrounds. The DeKalb-Peachtree Airport hosts private planes and an observation area, and Murphey Candler Park, Oglethorpe University and the parks of Dunwoody and Brookhaven are minutes away, with MARTA connecting to downtown Atlanta.

Best seasonApril to May and October to November for trail walks and patio dining.
Ideal stayHalf a day for downtown, the Rail Trail and lunch on Buford Highway.
ArrivingHartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is about 30 minutes away; MARTA trains stop downtown.
