About Carrollton

Carrollton is a city of about 27,000 people and the county seat of Carroll County, about 45 miles west of Atlanta near the Alabama line. Founded in the 1820s, it grew as a market town for the surrounding farms and later as a center for textiles and manufacturing. Today it is best known as the home of the University of West Georgia, which gives the city a young, lively feel alongside its historic downtown.

Adamson Square is Carrollton's central gathering place, a classic courthouse-town square ringed by brick buildings with restaurants, bars, boutiques and shops. The Amp at Adamson Square hosts outdoor concerts and movies, and the square fills up for festivals throughout the year. Nearby, the Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum, housed in a restored downtown building, celebrates the region's quilting and textile heritage, and the old railroad depot and handsome early 20th-century public buildings reflect the city's past.

The Carrollton GreenBelt is the city's signature outdoor attraction, a paved trail of about 18 miles that loops through woods, neighborhoods and parks around town and is popular with walkers, runners and cyclists. The University of West Georgia campus offers performances at the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts, and John Tanner Park, with a lake, beach and trails, lies a few miles west of town.

Best seasonApril to May and September to November for the GreenBelt, the square and outdoor concerts.
Ideal stayA day for Adamson Square, the quilt museum and a ride or walk on the GreenBelt.
ArrivingHartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is about an hour away by car via Interstate 20.
