About East Point
East Point is a city of about 38,000 people just southwest of downtown Atlanta, beside Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Founded in 1887 at the eastern end of the Atlanta and West Point Railroad, which gave the city its name, it grew as an industrial and railroad suburb and today is a diverse, historic community with a revived downtown.
Downtown East Point, along East Point Street and Main Street, has a historic water tower, a clock tower and brick storefronts with restaurants, cafes and shops, and the city hosts events and markets in its commons. The Delta Flight Museum, in Delta Air Lines' original 1940s maintenance hangars near the airport, displays historic aircraft including a Boeing 747 you can walk through, the first Delta Boeing 767 and a flight simulator, and is a highlight for aviation fans.
The Camp Creek Marketplace has big shopping and dining, and the city's parks, including Sykes Park and the trails at Camp Creek, offer green space. Neighboring College Park and Hapeville have their own historic downtowns, and the MARTA train links East Point directly to downtown Atlanta, the Atlanta BeltLine and the airport in minutes.
