About Caldwell

Caldwell is a city of about 63,000 people in Idaho's Treasure Valley, about 30 miles west of Boise and the seat of Canyon County. Founded in 1883 along the Oregon Short Line Railroad, it grew as a farming town on the Boise River, and today it is home to the College of Idaho, one of the oldest colleges in the state, and the gateway to the Sunnyslope wine region.

Downtown Caldwell has been transformed around Indian Creek, which was uncovered and turned into a walkway, and Indian Creek Plaza, a public square with summer concerts, festivals and a winter ice rink. The College of Idaho campus has the Orma J. Smith Museum of Natural History and the Rosenthal Gallery of Art, and the Van Slyke Museum shows the area's farm history.

Each August, the Caldwell Night Rodeo draws top cowboys to one of the largest rodeos in the region. South of town, the Sunnyslope Wine Trail winds through orchards and vineyards above the Snake River, and Lake Lowell offers boating and birdwatching.

Best seasonMay to October for wineries and the rodeo; December for the Winter Wonderland lights.
Ideal stayOne to two days, including a wine trail drive.
ArrivingBoise Airport is about 30 minutes east; I-84 runs along the north side of the city.
