About Page (Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon)

Page is a small town in northern Arizona, founded in the 1950s to house workers building Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River. It sits beside Lake Powell and near the Utah border, on land surrounded by the Navajo Nation, and has become a base for some of the most photographed landscapes in the Southwest.

Horseshoe Bend, just south of town, is a short walk to an overlook where the Colorado River curves in a tight loop far below the rim. Antelope Canyon, a pair of slot canyons on Navajo land, can be visited only with Navajo-authorized guides. Upper Antelope Canyon is known for light beams that appear around midday in summer, while Lower Antelope Canyon involves ladders and narrow passages. Visiting responsibly means booking a licensed tour and respecting rules on Navajo land, and some outfitters also explore the canyon's lower reaches by kayak or boat from Lake Powell. Glen Canyon Dam and the Carl Hayden Visitor Center explain the dam's construction, with the Glen Canyon Dam Overlook and bridge nearby. Lake Powell's Wahweap area and Lone Rock offer boating and beach camping, and boat trips reach Rainbow Bridge National Monument. In town, the Rimview Trail leads to the Hanging Garden.

Page suits road-trippers combining the Grand Canyon, Zion or Monument Valley. Book Antelope Canyon tours early, especially in summer.

Best seasonSpring and fall offer mild weather; summer brings heat but Upper Antelope's famous light beams.
Ideal stayTwo days covers Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon and Lake Powell; add a day for Rainbow Bridge.
ArrivingMost visitors drive from Las Vegas, Phoenix or Flagstaff; Page has a small municipal airport.
