Deerfield Beach is a laid-back oceanfront city of about 86,000 people at the northern tip of Broward County, between Boca Raton and Pompano Beach. Known for its wide public beach, fishing pier and family-friendly feel, it has been designated a Blue Wave Beach for its clean sand and water.
The beachfront along A1A has a lively promenade with shops, ice cream and cafes beside the International Fishing Pier, and the reefs just offshore draw snorkelers and divers. Deerfield Island Park, reachable only by a free water taxi on the Intracoastal Waterway, has nature trails, mangroves and gopher tortoises.
Quiet Waters Park offers cable water-skiing, a splash pad, kayaking and camping on its lakes. Historic sites include the Old Deerfield School, the oldest schoolhouse in Broward County, the Butler House museum and the Mediterranean-style 1926 Seaboard Air Line railway station. Boca Raton's dining and museums and Fort Lauderdale's nightlife are both close by.
Wide public beach at the end of Hillsboro Boulevard with lifeguards, showers and the International Fishing Pier stretching about 900 feet into the Atlantic. You can walk the pier for a small fee or rent fishing gear. Metered parking along A1A fills early on weekends.
Brick and wood promenade running along the main beach on A1A, lined with cafes, ice cream shops and bars facing the ocean. It is popular for morning walks, cycling and people-watching. Come at sunrise for cooler air and good views of the pier and the beach.
Broward County park on a small island in the Intracoastal Waterway, reachable only by boat. It protects mangroves, coastal hammock and gopher tortoise habitat, with boardwalks and short trails. Check county info for any boat shuttle days or bring your own kayak.
Free arboretum inside Constitution Park with hundreds of tropical and native trees, palms and flowering shrubs along shaded paths. Volunteers run the gardens and offer occasional tours and plant sales. It is a quiet, short stop; bring mosquito spray in summer.
Large Broward County park on the west side of Deerfield Beach built around freshwater lakes. It offers cable water-skiing and wakeboarding, kayak and paddleboat rentals, a splash play area, mountain bike trails and campsites. A small entry fee applies on weekends and holidays.
Small city park on the Intracoastal Waterway beside the Hillsboro Boulevard bridge, with a boat ramp, fishing spots, picnic tables and views of passing yachts. It is a handy place to launch a kayak or watch the drawbridge open. Parking is limited at busy times.
Wooden schoolhouse built in 1920, the oldest surviving school building in Broward County, now restored as a small museum showing what classrooms looked like a century ago. It is run by the local historical society; open days are limited, so check before visiting.
Mission Revival railway station built in 1926 for the Seaboard Air Line Railway, with stucco walls and a tiled roof. Listed on the National Register, it still serves passengers today. Visit for a photo of the classic Florida boom-era architecture.
1923 home of the pioneer Butler family, preserved by the Deerfield Beach Historical Society with original furnishings, photographs and stories of early farming life in the area. Guided tours are offered on set days. Combine it with the nearby Old Deerfield School.
