About Hollywood

Hollywood is a beach city of about 155,000 people in Broward County, halfway between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. It was founded in 1925 by developer Joseph Young, who dreamed of a Hollywood by the Sea, and his planned downtown, circles and boulevards still shape the city today.

Hollywood Beach is the star, with the Broadwalk, a 2.5-mile oceanfront promenade lined with cafés, bars and bike rentals, plus the Hollywood Beach Theatre and Charnow Park right by the sand. Downtown Hollywood along Hollywood Boulevard has restaurants, galleries and nightlife, and Young Circle is home to ArtsPark, with a bandshell for free concerts and outdoor events.

Inland, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino draws crowds to its giant guitar-shaped tower, and TY Park offers lakes, trails and a water play area. The Anne Kolb Nature Center protects mangrove wetlands along the Intracoastal Waterway, with kayak trails and an observation tower, and the historic Florida East Coast Railway station recalls the city's early days.

Best seasonNovember to April for warm, dry beach days; summers are hot with afternoon storms.
Ideal stayTwo days for the Broadwalk, downtown and a nature park, longer for a beach vacation.
ArrivingFort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is about 5 miles north, and Brightline and Tri-Rail serve the area.
