About North Miami

North Miami is a city of about 60,000 people in northeastern Miami-Dade County, between Miami and the beach towns along Biscayne Bay. Incorporated in 1926 as the Town of Miami Shores and renamed North Miami in 1931, it grew into a diverse residential city with one of the largest Haitian American communities in the United States.

The city's best-known cultural stop is the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) on NE 125th Street, the heart of a small downtown with Haitian, Caribbean and Latin restaurants. Arch Creek Park preserves a Tequesta and pioneer site around a former natural limestone bridge, and the Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park offers shady trails and pony rides. Music fans know North Miami as the home of Criteria Studios, where Eric Clapton, the Bee Gees and many others recorded.

The Biscayne Bay campus of Florida International University sits on the bay at the city's eastern edge, and Oleta River State Park, Florida's largest urban park, is next door for kayaking and mountain biking. Downtown Miami and the Miami Beach area are both a short drive away.

Best seasonNovember to April, when it is dry and warm; summer is hot, humid and stormy.
Ideal stayHalf a day to a day, often combined with Miami or the beaches.
ArrivingMiami International and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airports are each about 25 to 30 minutes away by car.
