About Deltona

Deltona is the largest city in Volusia County, a residential community of about 95,000 people between Orlando and Daytona Beach on the north shore of Lake Monroe. It began in the early 1960s as a planned development of the Deltona Corporation, which sold homesites across rolling sandhills and lakes, and it became a city in 1995.

Deltona's natural highlight is the Lyonia Preserve, a restored scrub habitat where visitors often see threatened Florida scrub-jays up close, with the Lyonia Environmental Center next door. Thornby Park looks out over Lake Monroe, and nearby Green Springs Park protects a striking green sulfur spring in old Florida woods.

The Spring-to-Spring Trail links parks along the lake for cycling and walking. Deltona makes a quiet base for day trips to Blue Spring State Park and its winter manatees, the historic riverfront of Sanford, the theme parks of Orlando about 40 minutes south and the beaches of Daytona and New Smyrna.

Best seasonNovember to April for cool, dry weather and winter manatees nearby.
Ideal stayHalf a day for the preserve and parks, or longer as a base between Orlando and the coast.
ArrivingOrlando Sanford International Airport is about 20 minutes away; Orlando International is about 45 minutes.
