About Hallandale Beach

Hallandale Beach is a small oceanfront city of about 41,000 people in the southeast corner of Broward County, Florida, squeezed between Hollywood to the north and Aventura and Miami-Dade County to the south. Founded in the late 1890s as a farming settlement named for Luther Halland, it was incorporated in the 1920s and took its current name in 1999 to highlight its beachfront.

Today the city is known for its high-rise condominiums along the Atlantic, a calm public beach and a strong horse racing tradition. Gulfstream Park, home of the Pegasus World Cup, combines thoroughbred racing, a casino and The Village at Gulfstream Park, an outdoor district of shops and restaurants watched over by a giant Pegasus and Dragon statue. The Big Easy Casino adds slots, poker and live entertainment.

Hallandale Beach makes a quieter, central base between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Hollywood Beach's Broadwalk, Aventura Mall, Haulover Beach and Miami Beach are all short drives away, and both major airports are within about half an hour.

Best seasonNovember to April for dry, warm beach weather; late January for the Pegasus World Cup.
Ideal stayTwo to four days as a beach base between Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
ArrivingFort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is about 15 minutes north and Miami International about 30 minutes south.
