About Little Havana

Little Havana is a historic neighborhood just west of downtown Miami, Florida, and the best-known center of Cuban American life in the United States. Settled by Cuban exiles from the early 1960s onward, it later welcomed immigrants from across Latin America, and its main artery, Southwest 8th Street or Calle Ocho, is lined with cafes, cigar shops, fruit stands and music bars.

The neighborhood wears its history openly. The Cuban Memorial Boulevard honors the Bay of Pigs veterans and Cuban patriots, the Calle Ocho Walk of Fame features stars for Latin music legends such as Celia Cruz and Gloria Estefan, and the 1926 Tower Theater still shows films. Every afternoon, men gather to play dominoes in the neighborhood park on Calle Ocho.

Visitors come for cafecito at a ventanita window, guava pastries, Cuban sandwiches and live salsa at Ball and Chain. The monthly Viernes Culturales evenings and the giant Calle Ocho street festival in March fill the streets with music and dancing, and loanDepot park, home of the Miami Marlins, sits on the neighborhood's northern edge.

Best seasonNovember to April for pleasant weather; March brings the Calle Ocho Festival.
Ideal stayHalf a day to a full day, including an evening of live music.
ArrivingMiami International Airport is about 15 minutes away; Little Havana is a short drive or Metrobus ride from downtown Miami.
