About Grand Prairie

Grand Prairie is a city of about 200,000 people in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, stretching from Interstate 30 south to the shores of Joe Pool Lake. It grew around the railroad and later the aircraft industry, and its central location between Dallas and Arlington makes it a busy entertainment hub.

The city is home to Lone Star Park, a thoroughbred racetrack, the Texas Trust CU Theatre concert venue and Grand Prairie Stadium, a former minor league ballpark rebuilt for cricket that hosted matches at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Families come for Epic Waters, a large indoor waterpark, and for the long-running Traders Village flea market and the Ripley's attractions.

In the south, Joe Pool Lake and Loyd Park offer boating, fishing, camping and trails, and each holiday season Lynn Creek Park lights up for the Prairie Lights drive-through display. Six Flags Over Texas, AT&T Stadium, Dallas and Fort Worth are all a short drive away.

Best seasonMarch to May and October to November for mild weather; late November to December for Prairie Lights.
Ideal stayOne to two days, easily combined with Dallas, Arlington or Fort Worth.
ArrivingDFW International Airport is about 20 minutes away and Dallas Love Field about 25 minutes; a car is the easiest way to get around.
