About Arlington

Arlington is a city of about 400,000 people between Dallas and Fort Worth, at the center of the Metroplex. It began in the 1870s as a stop on the Texas and Pacific Railway and was named after Arlington, Virginia, Robert E. Lee's home. For much of the 1900s it was a quiet farm and college town before booming alongside the rest of North Texas.

Today Arlington is best known as an entertainment capital. Its Entertainment District holds AT&T Stadium, the huge domed home of the Dallas Cowboys, and Globe Life Field, the retractable-roof ballpark of the Texas Rangers, along with the Texas Live! dining and events complex. Six Flags Over Texas, the original Six Flags park opened in 1961, and the Hurricane Harbor water park sit next door.

The city has quieter sides as well. The University of Texas at Arlington gives the downtown a college feel, the restored Arlington Music Hall and Levitt Pavilion host concerts, and River Legacy Parks follow the Trinity River with miles of wooded trails. Lake Arlington, the historic Fielder House museum and easy access to both Dallas and Fort Worth make the city a convenient base for exploring North Texas.

Best seasonMarch to May and October to November for games, theme parks and outdoor events; summer is hot.
Ideal stayTwo days for a game at AT&T Stadium or Globe Life Field, Six Flags and River Legacy Parks.
ArrivingDallas Fort Worth International Airport is about 20 minutes north; I-30 and I-20 cross the city.
