Flower Mound is a town of about 80,000 people in Denton County, north Texas, about 25 miles northwest of Dallas. It takes its name from a 12-acre hill covered in wildflowers and native prairie grasses, which is preserved by a foundation and is still the town's landmark. Settled by farmers in the 1840s, it grew into one of the most attractive suburbs of Dallas and Fort Worth.
Grapevine Lake borders the town to the south, with marinas, beaches, camping and some of the most beautiful sunsets in the area. The Northshore Trail along the lake is one of the best mountain biking and hiking trails in north Texas, and Twin Coves Park offers cabins and lake access.
Flower Mound has many parks and trails, including Heritage Park and Bakersfield Park, and a network of greenbelts for walking. The historic towns of Grapevine, with its wineries and Main Street, and Denton, with its music scene, are nearby, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is just to the south.
Best seasonMarch to May for wildflowers; October to November for lake trails and mild weather.
Ideal stayOne day for the Flower Mound, Grapevine Lake and the Northshore Trail.
ArrivingDallas/Fort Worth International Airport is about 15 minutes south; Interstate 35E runs east of town.
