About Carrollton

Carrollton is a city of about 135,000 people on the northwest edge of Dallas, spanning parts of Dallas, Denton and Collin counties. Settlers arrived in the 1840s and named it after Carrollton, Illinois, and the town grew when two railroads crossed here in the late 1800s, creating a small farming and shipping center.

Downtown Carrollton, built around the historic square at the old railroad crossing, has been revived around its DART light rail station. The square has a gazebo, local restaurants, antique shops and the restored Plaza Theatre, and the Perry Homestead Museum shows what life was like for early settlers. Carrollton is known for its large Korean community, with many restaurants and markets along Old Denton Road.

The city has more than 50 parks connected by trails. Josey Ranch Lake and Sports Complex, Standridge Stadium and the trails along Furneaux Creek make for easy outdoor time, and the Sandy Lake area hosts summer amusements. The DART Green Line and the DCTA A-train make it easy to reach downtown Dallas and Denton.

Best seasonMarch to May and October to November; summers are hot.
Ideal stayHalf a day to a day for the downtown square, Korean food and a park.
ArrivingDFW and Dallas Love Field are about 25 minutes away; the DART Green Line stops downtown.
