About Hoover
Hoover is the largest suburb of Birmingham, a city of about 90,000 people in the wooded hills south of downtown. Incorporated in 1967 and named for local businessman William Hoover, it grew quickly around new neighborhoods, shopping and good schools, and it is now one of the largest cities in Alabama.
The Riverchase Galleria, one of the largest shopping malls in the Southeast, has a huge glass skylight and the attached Wynfrey Hotel. The Hoover Metropolitan Stadium hosts the SEC Baseball Tournament each May, and the master-planned Ross Bridge community is known for its grand resort hotel and golf course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
Aldridge Gardens is a 30-acre public garden with hydrangeas, a lake and walking trails, and the Moss Rock Preserve protects rare sandstone boulders, waterfalls and climbing areas. Oak Mountain State Park, Alabama's largest state park, is a short drive south, and downtown Birmingham's museums and restaurants are about 15 minutes north.
Best seasonMarch to May for spring blooms and SEC baseball, and October to November for fall color and mild weather.
