About Edmond

Edmond is a city of about 95,000 people just north of Oklahoma City, born in the Land Run of 1889 when settlers raced to claim land around a railroad water stop. It became home to the first public schoolhouse in Oklahoma Territory, built in 1889 and still standing, and the University of Central Oklahoma, founded in 1890, keeps a lively college feel.

Downtown Edmond is walkable and full of local shops, restaurants and murals, with weekly events and festivals throughout the year. The University of Central Oklahoma's campus includes the historic Y Chapel of Song, and Bickham-Rudkin Park, Mitch Park and Hafer Park offer playgrounds, trails and big open lawns.

Lake Arcadia, on the city's eastern edge, is popular for kayaking, fishing, camping and wildflowers, and just beyond it historic Route 66 passes the famous Round Barn and the giant soda bottle at POPS in Arcadia. Oklahoma City's Bricktown and museums are about 20 minutes south.

Best seasonApril to June and September to October for festivals, lake days and Route 66 drives.
Ideal stayOne day for downtown, a park and Lake Arcadia, two with Route 66 and Oklahoma City.
ArrivingWill Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City is about 30 miles southwest.
