About Bella Vista

Golf fairways, clear lakes and forested Ozark ridges fill this corner of northwest Arkansas, just south of the Missouri line. Bella Vista began in 1917 as a summer resort built around a small lake, and from the 1960s it grew into a planned retirement village with several golf courses and a chain of man-made lakes. It became an incorporated city in 2007 and now draws families and outdoor lovers as well as retirees.

The best-known landmark is the Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel, a soaring glass and timber chapel in the woods designed by Arkansas architect E. Fay Jones. Mountain bikers come for the Back 40, a large network of purpose-built singletrack, while hikers follow the Tanyard Creek trail to a small waterfall and anglers launch on Loch Lomond and Lake Ann.

Bella Vista is the northern gateway to the Razorback Greenway, a paved trail that links the city to Bentonville, Rogers and Fayetteville. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Walmart Museum in Bentonville are about fifteen minutes away.

Best seasonApril to June and September to November for mild trail weather and fall color.
Ideal stayOne to two days for the chapel, lakes and a ride on the trails.
ArrivingNorthwest Arkansas National Airport (XNA) is about 30 minutes away; I-49 runs along the east side of town.
