About Brockton

Brockton is a city of about 105,000 people about 25 miles south of Boston, known as the City of Champions. It was the hometown of undefeated heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Marciano and middleweight great Marvelous Marvin Hagler, and a statue of Marciano stands outside the high school stadium. In the 1800s Brockton was a giant of shoe manufacturing, and Thomas Edison chose it for one of the first electric lighting systems.

Downtown along Main Street and Legion Parkway has historic commercial buildings such as the Franklin Block, and fine Victorian homes like the Gardner J. Kingman House and Moses Packard House line the older neighborhoods. The Fuller Craft Museum, the only museum in New England devoted to contemporary craft, sits in a wooded setting by a pond.

D.W. Field Park offers ponds, trails and a scenic parkway around the north end of the city, and Campanelli Stadium hosts the summer collegiate Brockton Rox baseball team. Boston and Cape Cod are each within an easy drive.

Best seasonMay to October for park walks, baseball and the Fuller Craft Museum gardens.
Ideal stayHalf a day for downtown, the museum and D.W. Field Park.
ArrivingBoston Logan International Airport is about 25 miles north, and MBTA commuter rail stops in Brockton.
