About Quincy

Quincy is a city of about 100,000 people on Boston Harbor, just south of Boston. Known as the City of Presidents, it is the birthplace of John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams, the second and sixth presidents of the United States. Their birthplaces, the family home called Peacefield and the Stone Library are preserved at Adams National Historical Park, and both presidents and their wives are entombed in the crypt of the United First Parish Church downtown.

Quincy was also the home of John Hancock, whose name is carried by the city, and it grew into an industrial city known for its granite quarries, which supplied stone for the Bunker Hill Monument, and its shipyard, which built warships for more than a century. The Thomas Crane Public Library, designed by H. H. Richardson, is one of the most beautiful libraries in New England.

Today Quincy has a large Asian American community, with many restaurants and markets, and a revitalized downtown. Wollaston Beach, the largest beach in Boston Harbor, offers skyline views, and the Quincy Quarries Reservation and Blue Hills Reservation provide hiking and rock climbing.

Best seasonMay to October for the Adams sites, Wollaston Beach and hiking.
Ideal stayOne day for Adams National Historical Park, downtown and Wollaston Beach.
ArrivingThe Red Line connects Quincy to downtown Boston in about 20 minutes; Logan Airport is about 25 minutes away.
