About Revere

Revere is a seaside city of about 62,000 people just north of Boston, Massachusetts, named after the patriot Paul Revere. Its centerpiece is Revere Beach, which opened in 1896 as the first public beach in the United States and soon became a famous resort with roller coasters, ballrooms and amusement piers.

The old amusements are long gone, but the three-mile crescent of sand remains, framed by restored historic pavilions, a bandstand and a busy boulevard. Each summer the Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival draws huge crowds to see giant sculptures by artists from around the world. The beachfront is also home to two classic local eateries: Kelly's Roast Beef, which claims to have invented the roast beef sandwich, and Bianchi's Pizza.

Revere is easy to reach on the MBTA Blue Line, which stops right at the beach, making it a popular summer escape from Boston. Nearby, the salt marshes of Rumney Marsh and Belle Isle Marsh offer quiet walks and birdwatching, and downtown Boston and Logan Airport are only a few miles away.

Best seasonJune to September for swimming and the sand sculpting festival; the beach is lovely for walks year-round.
Ideal stayHalf a day to one day, easily combined with Boston.
ArrivingThe MBTA Blue Line runs from downtown Boston to Revere Beach and Wonderland stations in about 20 minutes; Logan Airport is about 10 minutes away.
