About Osoyoos

Osoyoos sits at the southern end of British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, just north of the border with Washington State. Its hot, dry climate supports a rare pocket of shrub-steppe habitat and some of Canada's warmest summers, along with vineyards, orchards and a lake popular for swimming. The Osoyoos Indian Band, part of the Syilx Okanagan Nation, has played a major role in the area's development.

Osoyoos Lake is the summer focus, with beaches, boating and warm water, and the Pioneer Walkway follows the shoreline through town. sw̓iw̓s Provincial Park, on a spit extending into the lake, offers camping and wetlands. The Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre explores Syilx culture and the local desert ecosystem through exhibits and trails, and next door, Nk'Mip Cellars is among the earliest Indigenous-owned wineries in North America. The Osoyoos Desert Centre has boardwalks through native vegetation. West of town, Spotted Lake is a mineral lake whose pattern of pools is sacred to the Syilx people and is viewed from the roadside. The Anarchist Mountain viewpoint on Highway 3 offers a sweeping look over the valley and lake. The Osoyoos Museum and The Art Gallery Osoyoos round out a visit.

Osoyoos suits families, wine travelers and anyone seeking reliable sunshine. July and August are hot and busy, and late summer brings harvest.

Best seasonJune through September for lake swimming and wine touring; harvest arrives in September and October.
Ideal stayTwo to three days covers the lake, cultural sites and a few wineries.
ArrivingPenticton and Kelowna airports serve the region, and Highways 3 and 97 meet in town.
