Renton is a city of about 105,000 people at the southern tip of Lake Washington, about 12 miles southeast of downtown Seattle. It grew from coal mining in the 1870s, and since World War II it has been home to Boeing's Renton factory, where every 737 airliner is assembled before taking off from the city's airport.
Renton's lakefront is its best feature. A weekly farmers market at the Piazza in downtown Renton on Tuesday afternoons and evenings from early summer to fall, with local produce, berries, flowers, baked goods, crafts and food trucks. It is a relaxed community gathering. Bring a bag and go early for the best produce.
