About Revelstoke

Revelstoke sits on the Columbia River between the Selkirk and Monashee mountains in southeastern British Columbia. A railway town founded on the Canadian Pacific Railway route, it has developed into a base for skiing, hiking and mountain biking while keeping a historic downtown and a strong connection to its rail heritage.

Mount Revelstoke National Park rises directly above town, and in summer the Meadows in the Sky Parkway leads toward subalpine wildflower meadows. The Revelstoke Railway Museum displays locomotives and the story of building the line through the mountains, while the Revelstoke Museum and Archives covers local history. The Revelstoke Dam on the Columbia River is a significant engineering site north of town. Revelstoke Mountain Resort, known for its large vertical drop and deep snow, operates in winter, with summer activities including a mountain coaster. To the east, Glacier National Park and Rogers Pass feature steep peaks and avalanche history, and to the west, the Last Spike at Craigellachie marks where the transcontinental railway was completed in 1885. Three Valley Gap has a heritage ghost town, the Enchanted Forest offers family-friendly trails, and Albert Canyon has the Canyon Hot Springs.

Revelstoke suits skiers, hikers and road-trippers on the Trans-Canada. Winters are snowy, and summer is the season for alpine trails.

Best seasonJuly through September for hiking and the parkway; December through March for skiing.
Ideal stayTwo to four days covers the town, national parks and either skiing or hiking.
ArrivingMost visitors drive the Trans-Canada Highway; Kelowna's airport is a common gateway.
