About Sammamish

Sammamish is a city of about 67,000 people on a wooded plateau east of Seattle, rising above the east shore of Lake Sammamish in King County, Washington. It was incorporated in 1999 and is mostly residential, but its lakes, forests and trails make it a pleasant base for outdoor time between Seattle and the Cascade foothills.

The city stretches along Lake Sammamish, where Sammamish Landing and the East Lake Sammamish Trail give access to the water. In fall, Ebright Creek and other small streams see runs of native kokanee salmon. Inland, Pine Lake Park and Beaver Lake Park offer swimming, fishing and picnics, while Soaring Eagle Regional Park and Evans Creek Preserve have miles of forest trails.

Lake Sammamish State Park and the salmon hatchery in Issaquah are just to the south, and Redmond's Marymoor Park lies at the lake's north end. Snoqualmie Falls is about 25 minutes east, making Sammamish an easy stop on a Cascade loop.

Best seasonJune to September for lake swimming and dry trails; November for kokanee spawning.
Ideal stayOne day of parks and trails, or a base for Seattle and the Cascades.
ArrivingSeattle-Tacoma International Airport is about 40 minutes away; I-90 passes just south through Issaquah.
