About North Bergen
North Bergen is a township of about 63,000 people in Hudson County, New Jersey, stretching from the Hudson River across the top of the Palisades to the Hackensack Meadowlands. It sits just across the river from Midtown Manhattan, and high-rise apartments along the cliffs look straight across at the New York skyline.
The township's largest green space is James J. Braddock North Hudson Park, the biggest park in Hudson County, with a lake, playing fields and walking paths, named for the Depression-era boxing champion who grew up nearby. Schuetzen Park, a historic German shooting and picnic park from the 1870s, recalls the area's immigrant past, and Bergenline Avenue is one of the busiest Latino shopping streets in the region.
North Bergen is a practical base for visiting New York City. Buses reach the Port Authority Bus Terminal in minutes through the Lincoln Tunnel, and the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway, Hoboken and the Meadowlands sports complex are close by.
