About Farmington Hills

Farmington Hills is a city of about 83,000 people in southern Oakland County, Michigan, roughly 25 miles northwest of downtown Detroit. Settled in the 1820s by Quaker pioneers from New York, it remained a rural township around the older village of Farmington until it became a city in 1973.

Today it is one of Detroit's larger suburbs and home to some notable attractions. The Zekelman Holocaust Center is among the leading Holocaust museums in the country, drawing school groups and visitors from across the Midwest. The landmark Botsford Inn on Grand River Avenue dates from the stagecoach era, and the Longacre House recalls the area's estate days.

Heritage Park offers woods, trails and a nature center, while Glen Oaks and Founders Sports Park add golf and recreation. Downtown Farmington, Novi and the attractions of Detroit are all close by.

Best seasonMay to October for parks and trails; the museums are good all year.
Ideal stayHalf a day to one day for the Holocaust Center and Heritage Park.
ArrivingDetroit Metropolitan Airport is about 30 minutes south via I-275 and I-696.
