About Troy

Troy is a prosperous suburb of about 87,000 people in Oakland County, Michigan, about 20 miles north of downtown Detroit. Known as a corporate hub along Big Beaver Road, it is home to major offices, upscale shopping and well-kept neighborhoods, and is regularly ranked among the safest and most livable cities in the state.

The Somerset Collection is one of the Midwest's premier luxury malls, with high-end department stores and designer boutiques connected by a skywalk, while Oakland Mall offers more everyday shopping. Big Beaver Road is lined with restaurants, steakhouses and international dining.

The Troy Historic Village gathers 19th-century buildings, including a log cabin, the old Township Hall, the Caswell House and a church, for a hands-on look at pioneer life. The Stage Nature Center protects 100 acres of woods, wetlands and trails right in the city, and Boulan Park and the Troy Public Library round out a relaxed visit. Detroit's museums, Royal Oak's nightlife and Rochester's downtown are all nearby.

Best seasonMay to October for parks and patios, and November to December for holiday shopping at Somerset.
Ideal stayOne day for shopping and the historic village, as part of a longer Detroit-area trip.
ArrivingDetroit Metropolitan Airport is about 40 minutes southwest; a car is the best way to get around.
