About Taylor

Taylor is a city of about 63,000 people in Wayne County, Michigan, in the Downriver area about 20 miles southwest of downtown Detroit. Settled as a farming township in the 1800s and named after President Zachary Taylor, it grew quickly with the auto industry after World War II and became a city in 1968.

The heart of Taylor's leisure life is Heritage Park, a large city park with a covered bridge, a pond, walking paths, a petting farm and the Taylor Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Each June the park hosts the Taylor Summer Festival with rides, music and fireworks. Lakes of Taylor Golf Club offers a well-regarded public course.

Taylor is also a shopping destination for the Downriver suburbs, with Southland Center as its main mall, and the Taylor Sportsplex has ice rinks and sports fields. Detroit Metropolitan Airport is next door, and downtown Detroit, the Henry Ford museum in Dearborn and the Detroit River shoreline are all a short drive away.

Best seasonMay to September for Heritage Park, golf and the June summer festival.
Ideal stayHalf a day, or a convenient base near Detroit Metro Airport.
ArrivingDetroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is about 10 minutes away; I-94 and I-75 serve the city.
