About Dearborn

Dearborn is a city of about 110,000 people just west of Detroit, best known as the hometown of Henry Ford and the headquarters of the Ford Motor Company. Ford was born on a farm here in 1863, and his company's River Rouge Complex, once the largest industrial site in the world, still builds trucks on the city's edge.

Dearborn's star attraction is The Henry Ford, one of the largest history museums in the country. The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation displays the Rosa Parks bus, the limousine in which John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and the Wright brothers' workshop, while Greenfield Village, an open-air museum, brings together Thomas Edison's Menlo Park laboratory, the Wright Cycle Shop and dozens of other historic buildings. Ford Rouge Factory Tours let visitors watch trucks being built.

Dearborn also has the largest Arab American community in the United States, and the Arab American National Museum tells the story of Arab immigrants. Warren Avenue and Michigan Avenue are lined with Lebanese, Yemeni and Iraqi restaurants and bakeries, and Fair Lane, Henry Ford's estate, is open for tours.

Best seasonMay to October for Greenfield Village; the museum is good year-round.
Ideal stayTwo days for the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, the Rouge Factory Tour and the Arab American National Museum.
ArrivingDetroit Metropolitan Airport is about 15 minutes southwest; Amtrak stops at the Dearborn station.
