Bossier City is a city in northwest Louisiana on the east bank of the Red River, directly across from Shreveport. It grew from a river landing and plantation area into a railroad town, and its modern growth came with Barksdale Air Force Base, which opened in the 1930s and remains home to Air Force Global Strike Command and the Eighth Air Force.
Since the 1990s, riverfront casino resorts have made Bossier City a busy entertainment destination, with Horseshoe Bossier City and Margaritaville Resort Casino drawing visitors for gaming, concerts and dining. Next to them, the Boardwalk Bossier City shopping and dining center lines the Red River, and Brookshire Grocery Arena hosts concerts, sports and family shows. The East Bank District is the city's growing arts and entertainment quarter.
Aviation fans can visit the Barksdale Global Power Museum on the base, and nature lovers can head to the Red River National Wildlife Refuge visitor center or Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area. Downtown Shreveport is just over the bridges.
