About North Little Rock

North Little Rock is a city of about 65,000 people on the north bank of the Arkansas River, directly across from Little Rock in central Arkansas. It grew up around the railroad as the town of Argenta in the 19th century, was absorbed and then re-formed as its own city, and remains an important rail center with a strong sense of identity.

The Argenta Arts District is the lively historic downtown, with galleries, theaters, restaurants, the farmers market and Dickey-Stephens Park, home of the Arkansas Travelers minor league baseball team. On the riverfront, the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum lets visitors explore the World War II-era submarine USS Razorback, and the Simmons Bank Arena hosts big concerts and games.

The Arkansas River Trail loops through the city and crosses the river on the Big Dam Bridge, one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the country. Burns Park is one of the largest city parks in the United States, and the Old Mill in T.R. Pugh Memorial Park is famous for appearing in the opening of Gone with the Wind.

Best seasonMarch to May and September to November; summers are hot and humid.
Ideal stayOne to two days, combined with Little Rock across the river.
ArrivingClinton National Airport in Little Rock is about 15 minutes away; the Metro Streetcar links the two downtowns.
