About Vineland

Vineland is a city of about 60,000 people in Cumberland County, southern New Jersey, and the largest city in the state by land area. It was founded in 1861 by Charles K. Landis as a planned, alcohol-free farming community laid out around the wide Landis Avenue. In 1869 the dentist Thomas Welch first made his unfermented grape juice here, the start of the Welch's brand.

Farming still matters in Vineland, which is surrounded by produce farms and greenhouses, and the city has a rich mix of Italian, Puerto Rican and Mexican communities. Downtown Landis Avenue is home to the restored Art Deco Landis Theater and a range of family restaurants. The Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society runs one of the oldest local history museums in the state, and the quirky Palace of Depression recalls a 1930s roadside attraction.

On summer nights, the Delsea Drive-In shows double features under the stars. Parvin State Park, with lakes and Pine Barrens-style forest, lies just to the west, and the Delaware Bay shore and Atlantic City are each under an hour away.

Best seasonMay to October for farm stands, the drive-in and nearby lakes.
Ideal stayOne day, or a weekend combined with the Delaware Bay or Atlantic City.
ArrivingPhiladelphia International Airport is about 50 minutes away by car via Route 55; Atlantic City Airport is about 45 minutes away.
