About Piscataway

Piscataway is a township of about 60,000 people in Middlesex County, New Jersey, on the north bank of the Raritan River across from New Brunswick. Settled in 1666, it is one of the oldest communities in the state, and its name comes from a Lenape word. Today it is a diverse suburban township with a strong tech and research economy.

Much of Piscataway's identity comes from Rutgers University, whose Busch and Livingston campuses lie largely within the township. Here you will find SHI Stadium, home of Rutgers football, Jersey Mike's Arena, where the Scarlet Knights play basketball, and the wooded trails of the Rutgers Ecological Preserve.

History lovers can explore East Jersey Olde Towne Village, a collection of relocated and reconstructed colonial buildings in Johnson Park, the 18th-century Cornelius Low House overlooking the Raritan, and the Metlar-Bodine House Museum. Johnson Park itself offers riverside paths and picnic areas. New Brunswick's theaters and restaurants are just across the river, and New York City is about an hour away by train.

Best seasonSeptember to November for Rutgers football and fall color along the Raritan; spring is also pleasant.
Ideal stayA day trip or one night, often combined with New Brunswick.
ArrivingNewark Liberty International Airport is about 35 minutes away; the nearest NJ Transit stations are in New Brunswick and Dunellen.
