About Easton

Where the Lehigh River pours into the Delaware, Easton grew from a 1752 colonial town into a canal and railroad hub, and its compact downtown still radiates from Centre Square. On July 8, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was read aloud here, one of only three public readings that day, and the city still celebrates with Heritage Day each summer.

Today Easton is best known to families for the Crayola Experience, since the crayon maker has long been based nearby. A short walk away, the Easton Farmers' Market claims to be the oldest continuously running open-air market in the country, and the Easton Public Market fills a restored building with local food stalls. Lafayette College looks down from College Hill, and the restored State Theatre hosts concerts and touring shows.

Along the Lehigh, Hugh Moore Park and the National Canal Museum offer mule-drawn canal boat rides, towpath walks and history of the coal canals. Across the Delaware lies Phillipsburg, New Jersey, and the vineyards and covered bridges of Bucks County are within an hour.

Best seasonMay to October for canal boat rides, the farmers' market and riverside festivals.
Ideal stayOne to two days.
ArrivingLehigh Valley International Airport is about 20 minutes west; New York City is roughly 75 miles east via I-78.
