About Cherry Hill

Cherry Hill is a large township in Camden County, New Jersey, about ten miles east of Philadelphia. Farmland until the mid-20th century, it was called Delaware Township until 1961, when residents adopted the name of a local farm and a well-known inn. The opening of the Cherry Hill Mall that same year, the first enclosed shopping mall on the East Coast, helped make it one of the best-known suburbs in the Philadelphia area.

Today it is mostly residential and commercial, with busy shopping corridors along Route 70 and Route 38, but it preserves several reminders of its farming past. Barclay Farmstead is a restored early 1800s farmhouse museum, and Croft Farm, beside the Cooper River, is home to the township's arts center and nature trails. Springdale Farms still sells its own produce and runs pick-your-own seasons.

Families visit the Garden State Discovery Museum, and Cooper River Park offers a lakeside loop and rowing regattas. PATCO trains reach Center City Philadelphia in about 20 minutes.

Best seasonMay to October for farms, parks and rowing regattas; November to December for holiday shopping.
Ideal stayHalf a day to a day, or a base for visiting Philadelphia.
ArrivingPhiladelphia International Airport is about 25 minutes away; PATCO trains and NJ Transit link to Philadelphia.
